The Federal Health minister Ms Roxon was quoted as saying;
We’ve got research that shows that young people are price sensitive and if that means that this is a deterrent then that will be a really successful measure on our part.
And with the the Government have lifted the tax on alcopops, cruisers etc., from from $39 a litre of pure alcohol to $67. From what I heard it equates to about an extra dollar per bottle.
I doubt very much that this will have much of an effect. I would have thought that a better solution would be to reduce the alcohol content to less than half, but then that would probably not bring in as much revenue.
You are right, I doubt a dollar is going to have a huge effect on anything.

A dollar in the scheme of things is nothing and while it may cause some discontent will not achieve the result and I am sure the government realizes this and are merely using it as an tax grab, while seaming to do something about the situation.
