For those of us who live in metropolitan areas, we are fortunate in that we have ready access to doctors and ambulance services. Those who live in regional areas are less fortunate, especially when an emergency occurs and they require urgent medical attention. Those of us in Australia are well aware of The Royal Flying Doctors who are always ready at the drop of a hat to fly out to help those in need.

I was surprised to find out the other day that another group of specialists called AeroCare also provide a air ambulance service. The difference is that these guys are prepared to fly world wide to help those in need. All staff like doctors are committed to excellence, and their craft are highly maintained and contain the best modern equipment.

These guys are needed for those patients who generally need to be transported over 200 miles, who require medical attention and/or are unable to tolerate sitting upright in an airliner. Sometimes these patients may have been injured while on holiday or are living in an area where the local medical centres are not equipped to handle the situation. They may also be called over seas to bring injured patients back to the States.

Fortunately many health insurance plans cover the costs involved with this sort of service, but it is a good idea to check to see if yours does, especially if you live in an area where you are likely to require this type of specialised service.
