This video shows the aftermath caused by the truck driver who rammed the V/Line train near Kerang. The death toll has risen to 11 and the driver faces another 10 counts of culpable driving. At the moment he has been charged with one count over the death of New Zealand man Nick Parker.
What is shocking is that the police allege he was trying to outrun the train, believing that he could beat it to the crossing. I suppose the reasoning behind this is the fact that he left skid marks some 30m long in his attempt to stop after discovering he wouldn’t make it. I hope this is not true, I would rather believe it was an accident and not due to someones stupidity.
