We are a pretty careful lot in Australia when it comes to what we allow into the country. I suppose its because of past mistakes and lessons learned. Some of these mistakes like the cane toad which were introduced to combat another pest were self inflicted but others were introduced by stupid tourists and even by Aussies returning from an overseas holiday. Thankfully customs catch most of these before they come in.
I came across this little story about how Asian Bees were found in Cairns.
Hopefully they can be eradicated. Though the bees themselves are not dangerous the damage they can cause by wiping out our bee population certainly supports the name “Killer Bees”!
