I have never really been satisfied with Google’s PR because I didn’t feel it was an accurate ranking of a site’s true popularity. The PR of any blog or site was too easily manipulated by linking strategies and Google was consistently changing its algorithms to obtain what it felt was a better reading. Unfortunately I fear that they have failed as far as I am concerned and while the information they have gathered may be of some use to them it is of little use to anyone else.
I was really pleased to find that Izea has released IZEARanks.com, a tool that ranks bloggers based on actual traffic and influence. Hopefully it will be a more accurate way of showing ones true rank as compared to Google’s PR which is completely false, especially now that in their wisdom Google has decided to penalise bloggers who take on paid posts.
I have added a piece of java script to supplied by Izea to all my blogs so that they can collect and report a rank based on my actual traffic. They are also running a competition where they are giving away $1000 each week in February to the blog with the #1 RealRank. I may not get there but I will give it a real go because that $1000 will really come in handy. Hell with that sort of incentive, even if I don’t actually win the prize I reckon I will really boost up my traffic in the effort to claim it so either way I win.
