The Gruesome Death Of A Would Be Burglar

The time, 2.10 in the morning as a burglary went horribly wrong. It appears that a 37-year-old male from Christies Beach failed in his burglary attempt of a home in O’Sullivan Beach. As the elderly occupants slept soundly he threw a statue he pick up from the garden through the window. Unfortunately as he tried to climb through the window he must have slipped on the remains of the statue and cut his own throat.

The couple possibly only a meter away from the window were shattered with glass and the wife woke up screaming. The man relates what followed.

I didn’t know whether I was going to be fighting for my life or running for my life… I didn’t know whether it would be one person or more or whether they would try and attack me……He wasn’t trying to talk; he was well past that….I took a couple of towels out there and tried to stop the bleeding. Once I realized he wasn’t going to attack me, I wanted to try and help him.

I felt his pulse but he was just cold and clammy. He wasn’t moving and he was barely breathing. You could hear the air going in and out through his throat; not his nose and mouth. By then I realized there was nothing I could do.

The police who got there first were unable to do anything as the man was too far gone. He later died.

While one feels sorry for the loss of life one wonders what would have happened to the couple had he succeed in gaining entry.
