Tornadoes Playing Havoc On Oklahoma And Kansas

This is some raw footage of a tornado and it just goes to show that mother nature can sometimes be a real bitch. As Tornadoes continue to assault Oklahoma and Kansas one wonders why they haven’t come up with a better way to construct homes in areas subject to these destructive winds. Perhaps they should consider building homes underground similar to what we have in Coober Pedy!

    Actually, that’s kind of an interesting thought, Sire, but I’d assume that would be way too expensive. Many communities have shelters dug out to offer some protection, but to do it the size of houses? Hmmm,…

    It can be done. In Coober Pedy, we have homes, museums, stores and even an art gallery all under ground. Besides, what is the expense of having to continually rebuild your home?

      True, but I saw how long it took to make all of that, and man, I just don’t know. I’m thinking the cost would be in trying to mass produce that many houses underground like that.

    Mitch, that was referring to one of the original homes which was dug out over 10 years using a pick and shovel, hoping for a big opal find too no doubt 😉 , and is in no way typical of one that would be built today. As I read a little further on I found the following;

    “Building a new home is a breeze, compared to conventional building methods. And much cheaper!”

    Still I suppose it all depends on what you have to dig through.
