Why The Charles Sturt Council Suck

Normally I don’t worry too much about other council areas because they don’t affect me. This was true of the Charles Sturt Council who have been in the news lately over their plan to redevelop the St Clair Reserve which is located in Woodville. Apparently they only did minimal consultation with the residents and then decided to go their merry way, even after many months of protestation from their constituents.

The council feel there isn’t an issue because they are going to swap the pristine park-lands for land which was once occupied by the former Actil site. Land which residents claim that its contamination makes it highly inappropriate for recreational use.

What they forget is that they are supposed to work for the people who vote them in, and not against them. I reckon that the next council election will see a whole bunch of new council members.

But that isn’t what prompted this post. About a month ago I got an infringement notice for overstaying my welcome whilst shopping at West Lakes. Not a problem, I did the crime and so I have to pay my dues. It wasn’t until I tried to pay the fine, albeit 4 days late, that I found they had added a late payment fee. OK, I thought to myself, a $21 fine could possibly incur a late payment fee of at least $10, not the $30 they charged me. Man, that is a whole pile of bullshit.

Imagine having to pay more than the original fine itself. I wish I could charge my customers a $30 late fee, I’d be bloody rich by now. Well, let that be a lesson to me, don’t frequent any of the stores in the Charles Sturt Council area. While I feel sorry for the resident shop keepers, perhaps they should consider giving those wankers the heave ho at the next council elections.

Ain’t that just typical of elected officials the world over – the only time they want anything to do with you is when they’re after your vote. Try getting to see them the day after the election! “Sorry buddy, you’ll have to wait til the next election…”

    Democracy, my **s.

Ain’t that the truth, although having said that there are some very good public officials. Too bad that they are few and far between.

Charles Sturt Council CEO Mark Withers says “We got a lot of positive feedback about some of the proposals. We also have a number of the big agencies in the area, like the school for example, the high school has 1,100 kids and they’re right adjacent to this space and they use it and they’re in support of it,” he said.

Well, I would like to know that when CEO Mark Withers said “…a lot of positive feedback about some of the proposals”. Did he translate feedback to their signatures OR “…1,100 high school kids” Did he mean year 8,9,10,11 and 12 and their signatures to give him the right to swap our good land to toxic land.

I don’t trust these CEO’s, especially if they get paid on a performance basis, and some of them get paid way too much for my liking. Perhaps if they paid their CEO’s less we would get more for our council rates.

Anyway, back to the point in hand. They will twist stats any which way they can to prove their point, but it doesn’t necessarily make it right. The fact that there is such an uproar over this should show them they’ve got it wrong and they should back down. The fact that they are sticking to their guns show they have their own agenda and don’t give a crap about their rate payers or what they want.

Jasmine, I suppose you are referring to the fact that a majority of the council members are also members of the Labor party. It does sort of make you wonder doesn’t it?

I can see you are pretty emotional about the whole thing Jasmine, and I don’t blame you, especially after doing a bit of research and finding out that the land they want to swap is right across the road from the existing park. Why the hell don’t they build the development there and leave the park alone?

I’m sorry, but something is not quite right, and it looks to me as if they are involved in something fishy.
